Video: Have you ever seen more swerve on a free-kick than this one?

We know that footballs move a hell of a lot in the air these days, but this is just ridiculous…

Football fans love a free-kick with a lot of swerve on it. Whether it’s Roberto Carlos, Juninho, Cristiano Ronaldo or Andrea Pirlo taking it, the sight of a specialist free-kick taker purposely deceiving the ‘keeper by putting a seemingly impossible amount of bend on a shot is a sight to behold.

We have to say, however, we have a lot of sympathy for the Portuguesa goalkeeper who had to try and save a free kick from Rafael Sobis in the their clash with Fluminese a couple of nights back.

Sobis scored with a brilliantly-struck free-kick but on first glance, you might think that the ‘keeper could have done better. Look again, however, specifically at the replay showing the flight of the ball from behind the kicker, and you’ll see the ridiculous amount of swerve on the ball before it flew into the net.

It was like he was kicking the Derby or Cup Champions balls that will be familiar to Irish children of the 90s. Now, there were balls that didn’t half move in the air.
