The senior squad might be having a hard time of it of late, but the U-19s are showing the way and you might never see a sweeter strike to gain qualification, at any level.

Paul Doolin’s recorded a memorable victory over Sweden in the UEFA U19 Championships qualifying round in Angelholms and after beating Azerbaijan in their opening game, Doolin’s side now top the group and are guaranteed a place in the elite round as the top two progress.

The match winner came courtesy of Liam Kelly, and what a sensational strike it was to take the three points.

Kelly spotted that Swedish keeper Edvard Setterberg was off his line and the audacious strike caught the shot-stopper off-guard to hand the Irish side a brilliant away win.

“The goal was absolutely unbelievable and I instantly thought of David Beckham. Liam picked it up on the half-way line looked up and let fly. For a guy of his size he has great technique,” Doolin said afterwards.

One hell of a strike.
