We thought the award for the best goal ever scored by a goalkeeper had been wrapped up earlier this week, but that guy has some competition.
If you haven’t seen it already, you really should check out the 80-yard half-volley scored by a goalkeeper in the Swiss amateur leagues that we had up on the site earlier on this week.
We would have thought that could never be bettered, until we cast on our eyes on another goal scored by a netminder in the Danish second division yesterday that is.
Jakob Køhler – remember the name folks – ventured up the field for a corner-kick in injury time with his team, Skjold Birkerod, trailing by a goal against Frem and needing a goal to rescue a point and maintain their excellent start to the season.
Although the corner broke down originally, the ball made its way back into the area at a perfect height for Køhler to execute a textbook bicycle kick, score the equaliser and send the home faithful into raptures.
His celebration wasn’t half bad either.
Was it the best goal by a goalkeeper ever? Hard to say, but we’re pretty certain that two goalkeeper goals of that quality will never occur within a few days of each other again.
Check out Køhler’s glorious effort for yourself in the video above.
