Video: Louis van Gaal takes reporters to school over ‘stupid questions’ about Manchester United job

If he does end up getting the Manchester United job, Louis van Gaal’s dealings with the media next season could be a whole lot of fun indeed.

He hasn’t been confirmed as the next United manager yet, of course, but with the majority of reports suggesting that it is as good as a done deal at this stage, it would be a huge surprise if Louis van Gaal isn’t patrolling the touchline at Old Trafford next season.

Before he does make the move, he will take charge of the Dutch national side during the World Cup in Brazil and having started preparations with a training camp for the home-based players this week, a few reporters from the UK media headed to Holland to get a few words from the man himself about how negotiations with Manchester United were progressing.

While Van Gaal as good as acknowledged that his move to Old Trafford is inevitable, any reporters present who thought they were going to get a few easy soundbytes were mistaken; Dan Roan of the BBC, for example, was rebuked for a ‘stupid question’ when asking what Van Gaal knew of Manchester United.

That wasn’t the only time Van Gaal gave daggers to the reporters present (he also shared a few laughs in fairness to him) during a four-minute interview that, although it was pretty brief, underlined the perception of Van Gaal as a strong character who will do things his own way and, for want of a better phrase, take no sh*t if and when he gets one of the biggest jobs in football.
