Canada romped to a 10-3 victory over Mexico in the World Baseball Classic yesterday, but tensions spilled over in the ninth innings after Canada’s Rene Tosoni was hit by a pitch from Mexico’s Arnold Leon. And then it became a free for all.
Not only were the players laying into each other, but it set fans off in the stands too before order was eventually restored and Canada completed the victory.
Seven players were ejected after umpires huddled, trying to sort out the frenzy, but amazingly there will be no suspensions handed out.
“Because at least one club -- and potentially both -- will not advance to the second round, discipline will not be imposed beyond today's seven game ejections,” a statement from the governing body read.
Things were far more relaxed at the Phillies game yesterday by comparison.
