Monday Night Football proved good value for money as usual last night, with both pundits talking about subjects particularly close to their heart.

For Neville, it must have pained him more than a little to talk about the dramatic decline of his beloved Manchester United this season, but he didn’t shy away from the problems facing David Moyes and seemed particularly peeved about the innate conservatism evident in their approach compared to under Sir Alex Ferguson last season.

Conversely, we’re sure Jamie Carragher didn’t mind talking about United’s current predicament at all, but like Neville, his was a reasoned analysis and it was particularly interesting to see him compare United’s home clash against Newcastle last season and the limp effort of the team in red at the weekend.

Later in the programme, Neville and Carragher discussed the two form strikers in the league right now and predicted which one of Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero would end up as top scorer come the end of the season.

Not surprisingly, Carragher plumped for his old teammate Suarez – and you can’t blame him given the Uruguayan’s scintillating form at present – while Neville, a long-time Aguero fan, plumped for the Argentinean on the basis that he expects City to be top of the pecking order come the end of the season.

Excellent stuff as usual from a duo who have exceeded expectations since their unlikely punditry partnership was announced in the summer.
