Video: Referee gets a lesson in sportsmanship
We bet the referee felt a bit stupid after making this decision…
During a recent Saudi Premier League match between Al Nahdha and Al Ittihad, the Al Nahdha keeper Taisir Al Antaif found that his shoelaces had become untied with the score tied at 2-2.
Instead of letting time waste away by forcing the keeper to take his giant gloves off just to tie his shoe, the Brazilian striker Jobson decided to lend his opponent a helping hand.
You’re probably thinking ‘that’s nice, fair play to him’, but the referee saw it as time wasting at the hands of the Al Nahdha keeper and awarded Al Ittihad a free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box.
However, instead of taking the free kick, Brazilian striker Leandro Bonfirm hooked the ball wide on purpose so the two teams could get back to the game they were playing before the free kick was awarded.
While the game ended in a 4-4 draw it was definitely a win for sportsmanship.
