Video: Robbie on fire against Chicago in MLS season opener

New MLS season, same old Robbie Keane. Reigning champions LA Galaxy got off to a flyer against Chicago Fire yesterday and the Irish captain was involved in all of the goals in a 4-0 win.

It’s all coming up Robbie at the moment, it seems.

The Irish captain was on the scoresheet against Tijuana in a pre-season friendly recently and in a far more important development, it was revealed to the vast majority of us who didn’t already know that he is related to Morrissey after the former Smiths singer waxed lyrical about his relationship with Robbie in a website post after the pair met in the dressing room afterwards.

Keane continued his good run of form in yesterday’s MLS season opener against the Chicago Fire and although he played second fiddle to hat-trick hero Mike Magee, he was involved in all of Magee’s goals and put the icing on the cake with the fourth and final goal ten minutes from time (see video above).

Robbie has scored and probably will score better goals than this in the future, but his form bodes well for Ireland’s crucial World Cup qualifiers this month.

His popularity at LA Galaxy, meanwhile, was reflected in Mike Magee’s ill-advised attempt to recreate Keane’s trademark celebration upon completing his hat-trick yesterday, obviously forgetting that Keane himself doesn't seem to put as much heart into it these days as he did back in the day.
