New season, same old Robin van Persie…
It must have been difficult for Robin van Persie returning to the place where he was, eh, almost killed last season, but it didn’t seem to have any effect on the Dutchman, who was excellent in the opening 45 minutes at the Liberty Stadium and topped off the display with a cracking opening goal.
The Champions were under the cosh early doors and Van Persie’s strike was somewhat against the run of play, but what a strike it was. A hopeful punt over the top from Ryan Giggs was deflected into RVP’s path and after instantly and expertly controlling it onto his chest, he smashed it home acrobatically with his weaker right foot.
If that wasn’t good enough, he scored yet another ripper for United’s third, taking a pass from Wayne Rooney (who played for the last half an hour) and then using him as a decoy to make space and smash the ball beyond Vorm and into the roof of the net.
Class.
