Sampdoria’s Enzo Maresca scored a Wayne Rooney-esque bicycle kick against Atlanta today and unlike Rooney’s famous effort, this one didn’t come off his shin.
As many players have hilariously proved over the years, executing a bicycle kick is an extremely difficult skill and the risk of making a fool of yourself and ending up on your backside is very high indeed.
What’s even harder is doing it while running back towards your own goal, something Enzo Maresca managed with a quite glorious effort for Sampdoria against Atlanta in Serie A today.
Maresca’s goal was the first of two quite brilliant efforts in the passage of play above as the Atlanta ‘keeper did quite well to keep out a fierce Roberto Soriano effort from an incredibly tight angle before Maresca eventually put the ball in the net.
As the headline suggests, you’ll go a long way to see a better bicycle kick than this one; check it out for yourself in the video above.
