Goals like this make the Europa League worthwhile…

We’re sure that, like us, you haven’t been paying too much attention to the play-off phase of the Europa League. So, what we all missed was a beaut of goal by former Barca and Spurs man Giovani dos Santos earlier tonight.

The Mexican is now earning a living with Villareal and they faced off against Astana (not the cycling team) in the Europa League play-offs.

The Spanish side left Kazakhstan with a very useful 3-0 away win that surely books their place in the group phase and they also left with a superbly classy goal from their Mexican No 9.

The ball lands at Dos Santos’ feet just three yards from goal but with the goalkeeper and a few defenders in close proximity. Then, as casually as if he was flicking off a slipper before hopping into bed, Dos Santos just places the ball beyond everyone and into the net with the outside of his left boot.

The greatest compliment we can pay is that it was Berbatov-esque
