Vine: In case you missed Roger Johnson’s fairly pitiful attempt to defend Yaya Toure’s goal last night

Any team would have struggled to beat Manchester City last night, but West Ham certainly didn’t help themselves.

The Hammers were well and truly hammered 6-0 in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at the Etihad, the defeat coming only three days after they were dumped out of the FA Cup following a 5-0 loss to Championship side Nottingham Forest.

Big Sam brought loan signing Roger Johnson straight into the first team to face City last night and he showed just what he was capable of when attempting to defend the attack that led to Yaya Toure’s goal, City’s third, five minutes before the break.

Toure probably couldn’t believe his luck as Johnson retreated, retreated and then retreated some more and he no doubt would have back-pedalled all the way into his own net without trying to put a block in had Toure not put him out of his misery by slotting home from 12 yards.

That’s certainly the sort of defending that’s going to get you out of a relegation dogfight alright.
