We prefer McNair’s version but this is a decent effort by the Manchester United manager all the same.
Although his hand was forced by a defensive injury crisis at Old Trafford, it was still a big call by Louis van Gaal to give a debut to Northern Ireland underage international Paddy McNair against West Ham on Saturday, but the 19-year old acquitted himself very well and ended up making a crucial goal-line clearance with his head that maintained the hosts’ 2-1 lead.
Van Gaal was thoroughly impressed with both McNair’s performance and his crucial goal-line clearance, so much so that he even imitated it in a post-match interview afterwards.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so McNair should be thrilled with Van Gaal’s reaction to his goal-line heroics, even if it’s probably worthy of a six out of ten at best.
