The Nike shoes that took our breath away in Back To The Future II are arriving, appropriately enough, from the future - four years early than the film's 'futuristic' 2015 setting to be precise.
Believe it or not, late last year Nike even patented the self-lacing design which appeared in the 1989 flick. The shoes themselves are to be titled the Nike Air Mag shoes, with movie producer Frank Marshall last night teasing fans with a tweet that read "Going to need a lot of hoverboards". Too right.
The actual unveiling of the shoes is expected to take place later on tonight in LA, though Nika have also released a viral clip entitled 'McFly's Closet' from an account called 'DocEmmettBrown88' under the heading "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that looks like shelves and shelves of 2011 Nike MAG shoes". Take a look below:
"Great Scott!" indeed. Now all we need is our self-drying jacket and a copy of Jaws 19 from Max Spielberg to make Back to the Future II's 2015 setting completely authentic, albeit a few years early. Oh and hoverboards too please, - especially Biff's amazing wind-up model.
Rest assured, we at JOE will have the first pics of the Nike Air Mags as soon as they hit the interwebs so watch this space. All we can say about this imminent unveiling is to rob the slogan of the original Back to the Future release: "It's About Time".
