After six months on the sidelines, David Wallace has been named in a Munster squad for the first time this season.
Numerous obituaries were penned for the 35-year old’s career when he suffered a serious knee injury in Ireland’s final World Cup warm-up game against England last August.
Just over six months later, however, the dynamic flanker has been named in the Munster squad for this weekend’s clash with Aironi in Italy, a huge boost for Tony McGahan’s side as they prepare for the latter stages of the Heineken Cup and RaboDirect PRO 12 campaigns.
Munster will be hoping that Wallace’s return to the set-up is as seamless as that of Felix Jones, who scored a try on his comeback recently having, like Wallace, also been absent since Ireland’s World Cup warm-up matches last summer.
McGahan has also been able to call on Simon Zebo and Denis Hurley for the weekend’s encounter. Both players had been involved in the Irish set-up this week, but as Declan Kidney requires the services of neither player for the clash with the Scots, both will fly out with the rest of the squad from Dublin Airport on Friday morning.
Munster take on Aironi in the Stadio Zaffanella on Sunday at 3pm.
Munster Squad: M Horan, W Du Preez, BJ Botha, J Ryan, D Fogarty, M Sherry, S Archer, B Holland, I Nagle, M O'Driscoll, Dave O'Callaghan, T O'Donnell, P Butler, J Coughlan, D Wallace, C Sheridan, D Williams, I Keatley, S Deasy, S Zebo, L Mafi, S Tokula, L O'Dea, D Hurley, F Jones, S Scanlon, J Murphy.
