Mick McCarthy is about to step up efforts to bring Ireland defender Richard Dunne to Wolves.
The Honey Monster’s career at Villa is hanging in the balance as the club prepares to choose its new manager.
However, the ex-Ireland manager is believed to be extremely interested in bringing the former Man City player into the fold and is set to make his move as soon as Villa name their new man.
McCarthy has been a long-time admirer of the Tallaght player and was responsible for giving him his first international cap when he came into the Irish senior squad as an over-sized 17-year-old.
Meanwhile, McCarthy's roving eye is also said to be pointing towards West Ham's Matthew Upson and Birmingham's Roger Johnson.
