It can’t get any worse than this: a lasagne made by Findus has been found to be 100 per cent horse meat.
On the back of (no pun intended) all the horse meat stuff discovered recently, the British Food Standards Agency have revealed what is probably the most shocking horse/beef scandal yet.
According to a report on Sky News, during a test of 18 of its beef lasagne products food company Findus found 11 of its products contained horse meat in amounts varying from 60 per cent to 100 per cent. That’s all horse, with no trace of beef to be found.
Produced by a French company called Comigel on behalf of Findus, it has led to a withdrawl of Findus beef lasagne and Aldi's Today's Special frozen beef lasagne and Today's Special frozen spaghetti Bolognese from shelves.
A spokesman said: "We understand this is a very sensitive subject for consumers and we would like to reassure you we have reacted immediately. We do not believe this to be a food safety issue.
"We are confident that we have fully resolved this supply chain issue. Fully compliant beef lasagne will be in stores again soon."
