Paul the Octopus predicts Spanish victory

German football fans were in dismay today as Paul the ‘Psychic’ Octopus predicted that Germany would lose their World Cup semi-final clash with Spain.

Paul, who resides in an aquarium at Sea Life in Oberhausen, has predicted the winner of all Germany’s World Cup matches so far. He even predicted that Germany would lose their group match against Serbia.

Paul was given the choice between food from two different plastic containers; one containing the German flag, the other containing the Spanish flag. He hesitated for a moment before settling on Spain. His choice was broadcast live on several German news stations.

Paul has been wrong before however. He incorrectly predicted that Germany would defeat Spain in the final of Euro ’08. Germany will face Spain on Wednesaday in the Durban Stadium. Kick-off will be at 7.30pm.
