Apart from the All-Stars and the International Rules, the inter-county GAA scene enters a bit of a lull around this time of year and new jersey launches are one of the few things for fans to get excited about.

Mayo haven’t had one for a few years at this stage, but as well as having new men (Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes) in charge of the county footballers, they’ll also have a new jersey to mark the beginning of the post-James Horan era next season.

In a very welcome move, Mayo GAA and sponsors Elverys posted three designs of what the potential new jersey might look like on the Mayo GAA Twitter account last night and invited fans to help them make the decision by retweeting their favourite. They’re doing likewise on Facebook and if you want to do so, you can cast your vote here.

At the time of writing, design 1A is the clear leader with 126 retweets compared to 67 and 70 for 1B and 1C respectively and although it’s hard to tell what the new jersey will look like until it’s actually made, it’s a great idea for the county board to get the fans involved and we can see this move being replicated by other counties in the future.

At least it will save the supporters complaining about it later on in any case.
