We guess they didn’t ask the Tipp hurlers…

One of Ireland’s smallest cities has been voted one of the world’s friendliest. The fine folks at Conde Nast travel magazine have given the Marble City the thumbs up as one of the most welcoming cities on earth.

Kilkenny comes in at number 9 on the list, the only European city to make the top 10. Dublin was 12th while Cork was 20th. A report in the Irish Times says that Kilkenny’s clean air, many pubs and friendly locals were among the top reasons why visitors loved the place.

The top city was Florianopolis in Brazil, while Newark in New Jersey was the least friendly city. The report in the Times quotes the chair of Kilkenny tourism, Colin Ahern, who is obviously delighted.

“We understand that is it the people that make the most difference to a visitor experience and our welcome and first impressions are important. We want every visitor to our area to feel valued, welcome and appreciated.”

As we joked above, maybe Nowlan Park on a warm Saturday evening if you run out to play the Cats for Tipp, Wexford or Cork it may not be quite so friendly, but it is a great accolade for a great city.
