Dave Fanning always gets to be the first man on the planet to play any new U2 album on radio before anyone else and last night was no different.
There was a surprise (of sorts, it had been mooted beforehand) at the launch of the Apple’s new iPhone 6 last night as U2 released their brand new album free to all iTunes users.
The 13th album from the Dublin band, ‘Songs Of Innocence’, is free to download until the middle of October. As is tradition, Dave Fanning, a personal friend of the band, was on hand to play the new album from start to finish for the masses on 2FM.
Bono wrote a personal letter to Dave ahead of the album’s release and it was shared on Twitter last night…

Bono should really be writing prescriptions with a messy hand-writing style like that, but to be fair to him, it’s a nice gesture and recognition for one of our longest standing broadcasters, Dave Fanning.
