15-year-old Kalyn Ponga is recognised as the most talented sportsman for his age in Australia and rightly so considering he turned down lucrative deals with AFL teams, rugby union teams and even a possible career as a professional golfer before choosing rugby league with the North Queensland Cowboys.
A truly brilliant video was released this week of Ponga’s highlights playing for his school, Anglican Church Grammar, last season and he has become something of an internet sensation ever since.
The young full back has shades of Aussie international Israel Folau who also played both rugby union, rugby league and AFL throughout his career.
We aren’t easily impressed by YouTube sensations, having been bitten more than once by false stars, but this kid seems to be the real deal and if this young full-back continues his meteoric rise, you can expect to see Ponga wearing the gold of Australia in years to come.
Kalyn Ponga… remember the name.
