Clodagh Cogley and Aoife Beary are making great progress.

Fathers of Berkeley survivors Clodagh Cogley and Aoife Beary were on stage at last night’s RTÉ’s People of the Year awards to pay their tributes to Fr. Brendan McBride and Phillip Grant, two men who provided profound assistance to the families and friends affected by the tragedy.

Speaking of his daughter’s progress, Clodagh’s father Niall painted a picture of a brave woman.

“Clodagh’s injury is a spinal injury, which is a lot of things, as well as mobility issues – but she’s taking it on with an unflinching attitude. She’s inspired us every day… She’s back in college, Trinity College. She’s back home, the people in the National Rehab Hospital have been fantastic, and she’s great. So we know how lucky we are.”

Aoife Beary’s father Mike spoke similarly of his own child, saying “It’s been difficult for Aoife but she’s made fantastic progress since the accident. She’s due to come out of the National Rehabilitation Centre before Christmas which is great. It’s going to take effort and time, but she’s doing well.”
