The top 10 Irish towns with the most pubs per person

Joe Harrington

Go west for a quiet pint.

“Jesus, there are nearly more pubs than people in that place” is a term that gets thrown around when people visit busy rural towns around Ireland.

Now research has found out which towns actually have the most pubs per person, and unsurprisingly the west coast of Ireland is where the majority are located.

According to the Sunday World, the data was compiled by Thomas Bibby, who is the CEO of Reg Point of Sale.

He got a list of registered pubs in each Irish town from the Company Registration Office and compared them with specific population figures from the last census.

After an abundance of research by Thomas, here’s the top 10 Irish towns with the most pubs per person.

  1. Liscannor, Clare
  2. Feakle, Clare
  3. Lifford, Donegal
  4. Waterville, Kerry
  5. Doonbeg, Clare
  6. Castlegregory, Kerry
  7. Cong, Mayo
  8. Knocktopher, Kilkenny
  9. Ballyvaughan, Clare
  10. Sneem, Kerry

According to his findings, Liscannor in Clare comes out on top having one pub or hotel for every 26 residents. Unreal.

On the other end of the scale, Greystones has the highest ratio of people per pub with at 2,750 people per pub. Imagine how rammed it’ll be at Christmas.

If you and your friends like a quiet pint, you know where to go.
