2016 is shaping up to be a vitally important year for the political futures of Ireland and the USA. Our own General Election is set to be announced in the coming weeks and as we all know, Donald Trump is currently campaigning to replace Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
While Trump hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the Irish community in the US or here – members of the public have lobbied the government’s Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions to ban him from entering Ireland – there’s still a very real possibility that he could be the next President of the USA.
Trump’s has used the hashtag #MakeAmericaGreatAgain throughout his campaign and Twitter user PrayForPatrick has expertly taken the p**s out of his slogan.
So, what do Roy Keane, Richie Kavanagh, Michael D. Higgins, Vincent Browne, Charlie Haughey and Eamon DeValera/the sadly deceased Alan Rickman all got in common?
Respect & love to you from Ireland @realDonaldTrump. Please make America great again!#IRELANDSUPPOTSTRUMP #TRUMP2016 pic.twitter.com/LBSLUQe9UK

For those pedants among you, Patrick did acknowledge that his spelling was slightly off on his hashtag but we can’t fault his commitment to making Ireland great again.
Sorry @realDonaldTrump, I got the hashtag wrong #IrelandSupportsTrump
