The sixth president of the US John Quincy Adams reportedly said: “There is nothing more pathetic in life than a former president”.
Being unemployed is weird for everyone, you have so much time on your hands to the point that you have no idea what to do. Now imagine you used to have the most important job in the world.
With Obama’s CV we don’t think he’ll be checking the job section in the papers just yet; here’s a few potential jobs for the soon-to-be former President of the United States.
1) Write books
Let’s be realistic. Before we can think about dream jobs for big ol’ Barry let’s look at the most likely options. Obama was an extremely successful author before his presidency and chances are that’s what he will be afterwards.
His first book, Dreams From My Father, was released in 1995 and was critically acclaimed.
His second, The Audacity Of Hope, was published in 2006 and was also very well received. After eight years as the most powerful man in the world, his next one should be a must-read.
2) Spend time with his family
Another boring answer, but like the first, it’s a guarantee. Despite his role as leader of the free world, Obama has always been quick to remind the world that he is a family man first.
He thinks the world of his family, as he says so often himself.
“My wife has been my closest friend, my closest advisor,” Obama once said of his wife, Michelle.
“And… she’s not somebody who looks to the limelight, or even is wild about me being in politics. And that’s a good reality check on me. When I go home, she wants me to be a good father and a good husband. And everything else is secondary to that.”
Sorry, there’s something in our eye.
3) Spotify
Just last week, Spotify announced a job opportunity for the president of playlists.
The job requires that you have “at least eight years of experience running a highly-regarded nation,” “someone with good team spirit, excellent work ethic, a friendly and warm attitude, and a Nobel Peace Prize.” Not many people tick all of those boxes, but big bad Barry does, and any man with these sort of dance moves must have a decent taste in music…

4) The first man
Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but wouldn’t it be great for Michelle Obama to be the first female president of the America, and for Barack to return to the White House in four years’ time?
Although the family could probably do with a break from the chaos of running a country, and maybe the country could do with a break from the Obamas, there would be something brilliant about the family returning only four years after leaving.
5) Actor
Does anyone else think Obama would be a great actor? Think of all the people that he had to pretend to like while doing business as president. What better training could you have to be an actor? Besides, we hear they’re casting a new James Bond, and this man looks great in a suit.
Just saying…
6) Chat-show host
A man with this much class and charisma belongs on the screen somehow, and seeing him interview your favourite stars every night just sounds perfect. Whatever you have to say about the man, if a show called Late Nights with Obama aired three times a week, you’d definitely be tuning in.
7) Continue his work
After spending eight years in office and having that much influence over goings on, it will be damn near impossible for Obama to just take a back seat completely.
He plans to be the first president since Woodrow Wislon to remain living in Washington D.C., staying walking distance from the man who has spent the past four years undermining his every policy.
Perhaps it is a symbol of resilience from the Illinois native that, despite Trump’s best efforts, Obama’s work will never go away.
