With all of the talk of the Moonlight/La La Land snafu, one major development was more or less completely overlooked at this year’s Oscars.

Manchester By The Sea headed home with a few awards under its belt, and the movie was produced by streaming company Amazon.

Despite the talk about Netflix’s attempt last year with Beasts Of No Nation, this is the first time that a streaming company had gone home with Oscars, and an analyst has predicted that Apple will be joining that race within the next five years.

Wall Street analyst-turned-venture capitalist Gene Munster wrote a research note stating: “We think Apple will win an Oscar in the next five years. That’s how long it will take for Apple to scale its original content spend from less than $200 million today to $5-7 billion.”

Apple’s first two original series – Planet Of The Apps and the Carpool Karaoke spin-off – are both due to debut that this Spring.
