Irish actor Gabriel Byrne speaks out about former co-star Kevin Spacey’s behaviour

Production on 1995 classic The Usual Suspects was halted due to Kevin Spacey’s behaviour, according to Gabriel Byrne.

The Irish actor spoke to The Sunday Times about Spacey, who last month was accused of sexual misconduct by several people including actor Anthony Rapp.

“I did not know honestly then the extent of his violence. I mean, he was kind of a joke in that people would say, ‘That’s Kevin,’ but nobody really understood the depth of his predations. It was only years later that we began to understand that [filming] was closed down for a particular reason and that was because of inappropriate sexual behaviour by Spacey,” Byrne said.

Production was shut down on the movie for two days after the incident.

Spacey has since been sacked from House of Cards by Netflix.

The Usual Suspects, for which Spacey won an Academy Award, was directed by Bryan Singer, who yesterday was supposedly fired from Fox’s upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic. Singer contested this version of events, saying that the company wouldn’t give him sufficient time off to care for his mother, who is sick.
