Britain’s next big target after getting their blue passports back is just embarrassing

Brexit recession

Oh dear, oh dear…

Does it feel longer than the 18 months or so since the Britain voted to leave the EU? It feels like a lifetime ago at this stage with all the drama, lies and political manoeuvring which has gone on in between.

David Cameron resigned, there’s been another general election in the UK, the Tories lost their majority and the DUP now hold power over the Westminster government despite the fact that there’s no functioning executive in Northern Ireland. So we guess you could say it’s been a tumultuous period in British politics, although you’d probably be understating it if you did.

One moment which comes to mind when you think of Brexit and the negotiations that have gone on between the UK and the EU, is the moment that was celebrated by some as a victory for independence from the EU. That is the announcement that the UK would replace their current burgundy passport with the old blue one that has been decommissioned since 1988.

It made the front page of The Sun, who wrote “Brits will get their iconic dark blue passports back after Brexit, ministers announce today — in a stunning campaign victory for The Sun.”

The latest campaign to come out from The Sun and supported by the Leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom, is the campaign to get commemorative Brexit Stamps made to mark Britain’s “independence day” in March 2019.

Below is one of the suggested designs by The Sun.

Writing on her website, Leadsom said: “I think it would be an excellent way to celebrate leaving the EU, and I completely disagree with Royal Mail when they suggest that it isn’t an important event worth recognising.”

Small victories and all that.
