#TRAILERCHEST: The trailer for Deep Blue Sea 2 confirms that yes, they’ve made a sequel to Deep Blue Sea

Deep Blue Sea

Ready to dive back in?

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Deep Blue Sea 2.

Yes, the long-awaited (?) follow-up to the 1999 ‘classic’ aquatic adventure in which Samuel L. Jackson is killed off halfway through in hilarious, terrible CGI-assisted fashion:

Spoilers for a movie from 19 years ago there, sorry about that.

As you can tell from the timing of Jackson’s heroic motivational speech and instant demise, Deep Blue Sea knew exactly what kind of film it was.

As with the likes of the Fast and the Furious franchise and Jason Statham’s Crank movies, it winked at the audience, as if to say, ‘Lads, it’s a movie about hyper-intelligent sharks with murder on the brain, trust us, we know.’

It also boasted a brilliantly terrible LL Cool J song over the end credits; ‘Deepest Bluest (Shark’s Fin)’, which contained such lyrics as:

“Manmade terror, Hungry jaws of death

Y’all don’t cross my depths, I’ll pause your breaths!”

As for the sequel…

Plot’s it all about?

Sharks, obviously.

Seriously, it appears to be a complete retread of the original, only with less recognisable stars and special effects that look… passable?

Oh, and great dialogue like this:

“They’re problem-solving, learning how to learn… and they like it!”

Starring: Danielle Savre, Michael Beach, Rob Mayes, Darron Meyer

Directed by: Darin Scott

Irish release date: Deep Blue Sea follows in the grand tradition of Sharknado in that it will premiere on TV, with the SyFy Channel doing the honours.

It should be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on the same day, if not before.

DBS 2 may not give us that big-screen shark fix we all need in our lives, but there’s always the Jason Statham-led The Meg to look forward to in August. The Stath VS a 70-foot white shark? Money.

Enjoy…
