Do you like craft beer?

Well, you’re in for a treat when the Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair comes to town. The Convention Centre Dublin will be transformed into a Mecca for craft beer lovers from Thursday, 8 March, until Saturday, 10 March.

There’ll be over 60 exhibitors offering the very best in craft beer, cider, whiskey, gin, vodka and food over the weekend. You can choose from 400 types of craft beer alone, with the country’s best brewers bringing seasonal brews, limited editions and old favourites to the event.

To give you an idea of what to expect at the Alltech Craft Brews & Food Fair, we’ve picked out a few of the more interesting new beers that are on offer.

1. Juniper and Orange Ale

Maker: Reel Deel Brewery with James Brown Brews

What is it: This seasonal ale’s unique combination of juniper and orange certainly sets it apart from the crowd. If you’re unfamiliar with juniper, it’s the core botanical in almost every gin. So this unusual brew is bang on trend and definitely worth a go if you’re a gin lover.

2. Honey Beer

Maker: Galway Hooker

What is it: You may have heard of mead but this honey drink is a different animal altogether. Galway Hooker has infused this beer with a fresh honey flavour to give it an unusually sweet twist. It’s just the latest innovation to come out of the popular western brewery.

3. Imperial Stout

Maker: Boyne Brewhouse

What is it: This complex stout is not one for the fainthearted. All that barrel-ageing has given it a rich chocolate and vanilla flavour but a 10.8% ABV means it’s not to messed with. It’s a mature stout that should be sipped and savoured.

4. Whiskey Barrel-Aged Brown Ale

Maker: Reel Deel Brewery with Connacht Whiskey Company

What is it: Beer? Check. Whiskey? Check. What’s not to love? All that sitting in whiskey barrels gives this full-flavoured beer a bit of a kick and makes for a satisfying sup – with or without food.

5. Flanders Red

Maker: Rascal Brewing Company

What is it: Continuing the barrel ageing theme, Rascal Brewing Company have gone with an unlikely combo of beer and wine. That’s normally a recipe for a sore head but this Belgium red ale certainly benefits from being aged in Sangiovese Red wine barrels. The result is a sweet and sour beer with a fruity undertone and a tart finish.

Now that we’ve got your attention, here’s what you need to know.
