The competition is in its 60th year.
Ireland’s tidiest towns have been revealed in the annual Supervalu competition which compares every inch of Ireland’s landscape to see which location comes out on top.
In an awards ceremony which took place in the Helix in DCU on Monday morning, Minister Michael Ring TD and Managing Director of SuperValu Martin Kelleher announced:
- Glaslough, County Monaghan is awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Village 2018
- Listowel, County Kerry is awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town 2018
- Westport, County Mayo is Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town 2018
- Ballincollig, County Cork is Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre 2018

There was a record 883 entries in this year’s competition, which saw Listowel take home the prize for the first time.
The competition underwent a number of changes this year, including the regional breakdown and the separation of the Tidiness and Litter Control Category.
It had also been proposed to increase the number of regions in the TidyTowns competition from five to seven and to separate the Tidiness and Litter Control Category into two individual categories.
However, the main changes to the 2018 Competition were in the wording of the categories in the application form.
This was done, according to the organisers, “to provide greater clarity for participants”.
Last year’s winners included Birdhill, Clonakilty and Westport – which took home their prize for ‘Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town’ for the second time running.
