Horrible news.

A dead whale has washed ashore with a large amount of plastic waste found inside his stomach.

According to USA Today, the whale washed ashore in eastern Indonesia had a large lump of plastic waste in its stomach, including drinking cups and flip-flops.

The news is causing concern among environmentalists and government officials in one of the world’s largest plastic polluting countries.

Rescuers from Wakatobi National Park found the rotting carcass of the 9.5-meter (31-foot) sperm whale on Monday near the park in Southeast Sulawesi province after receiving a report from environmentalists that villagers had surrounded the dead whale and were beginning to butcher the rotting carcass, park chief Heri Santoso said.

Recently, there has been a lot of emphasis placed on the amount of plastic consumption in society today.

A number of major companies have seriously reduced the amount of plastic goods that they produce, in an attempt to make a positive change for the environment.

Most recently, Lidl Ireland announced that they would be removing black plastic from their fruit and veg range, with more products to follow.

And with stories like this, it’s obvious why they are doing such a thing.
