The demon is back.
While there’s no such thing as a sure-fire hit in Hollywood, there are some rules of thumb you can pretty much take to the bank.
For example, messing with a Ouija board will bring back a dead spirit, any kid in a horror film is bound to be creepy, and if a killer approaches, teenagers will continue to run up the stairs when they should be running out the door.
The Scream rules, if you will.
On top of this, you could add a very well-known idea that whatever (Film and Tv production company) Blumhouse produces, it usually turns to box-office gold.
For example, they’ve made The Purge, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, Whiplash, Hush, Get Out, Happy Death Day and so much more.
Essentially, their mantra is: Make films for cheap, get massive returns at the box-office.
The original Sinister film was the perfect example of this model, as the horror, starring Ethan Hawke, was a surprise success when it was first released back in October 2012.
The sequel that followed in August 2015 was not so well received, grossing a mere $26.3 million at the worldwide box-office. It currently has a 14% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first film revolved around a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.
During a recent Q&A, it appears that Jason Blum does want to see the demonic Bughuul return to haunt your dreams.
While traditionally known for their film content, Blumhouse Productions have been upping their TV work.
They recently developed a TV series that was inspired by their The Purge horror franchise, so it’s very likely that they’ll be bringing one of their most famous demons to the small screen.
Also, as the films show, the demon has plagued families throughout decades so there’s so much scope and backstory to tell.
