15 Gardaí have been questioned in relation to alleged corruption.

15 Gardaí in Munster have been questioned as part of a criminal investigation into suspected road traffic offences which were not prosecuted.

A number of searches were carried out during the week by officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, including the search of seized documents and computer records.

According to RTÉ, the people in question who were allegedly not prosecuted for road traffic offences include GAA players and officials.

The people in question have since had their phone seized.

Everyone involved is believed to be co-operating with the investigation this far, which is also examining if more senior officials applied pressure to ensure officers didn’t proceed with prosecutions.

The searches are a part of an ongoing criminal investigation into police corruption in Ireland, which began after it was suspected that confidential information was leaked to a crime gang in Munster.

Gardaí confirmed to JOE on Sunday that the investigation is currently underway.
