EW notes that while the project does not have a network or a streaming service attached yet, it is being shopped around.

Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s docu-series The Staircase is the compelling story of Michael Peterson, a crime novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen after she is found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home.

He claimed that she hit her head after she fell down the stairs. However, the police suspected foul play.

The first eight episodes debuted in 2005. Lestrade later filmed additional episodes after Peterson had been granted a new trial.

Peterson took the Alford plea, which led Lestrade to rule out any further filming for the docu-series.

The entire 13-episode documentary series is currently available to watch on Netflix.
