weather warning

Let’s hope Christmas week is more pleasant than this one is shaping up to be…

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning to nine counties ahead of anticipated gusts of up to 100 km/h later this week.

The warning has been issued to Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford and will come into effect at 9pm on Tuesday, remaining in place until 9am on Wednesday morning.

During that period, affected counties can expect southerly winds with mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h, with gusts of up to 100 km/h. There will be also be a risk of coastal flooding as a result.

Overall, this week is shaping up to be a pretty miserable one, with wet and windy weather the order of the day for the most part, until the weekend at least.

Temperatures will be relatively mild for this time of year, reaching highs of 12 degrees at times.

The unsettled conditions are forecast to prevail into the weekend and with the big day less than two weeks away, we’re afraid to say it’s looking like a grey Christmas is more likely than a white one at this stage.
