The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 is coming to RTÉ in May

Rory Cashin

Viewers can catch the new episodes on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player ahead of the UK premiere.

The final episode of the third season of the hit show The Handmaid’s Tale aired waaaaaaaaay back in August 2019, and fans have been left pretty much on the edge of their seats ever since.

Thankfully, you’ll all be happy to know that Offred/June (Elisabeth Olsen) and everyone else who has survived the trials and tribulations of the first three seasons will be back very soon.

The fourth season was due to be out earlier, but Covid restrictions halted production for several months, with the final scenes only finished in February of this year.

Additionally, this new season will see Moss make her directing debut, getting behind the camera for three of this season’s ten-episode run.

According to the show’s producers, this is what you can expect from the new season:

“The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead. But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships.”

And for those worried that this season might mark the end of the show, you’ll also be happy to hear that it has already been renewed for a fifth season.

RTÉ’s Director of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Dermot Horan said: “We’re so pleased to be able to bring this new run in a highly-acclaimed and thrilling series to our viewers on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player as a ‘see it first’ this May, ahead of UK broadcast.”

The first episode of the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale will debut on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player at 10.30pm on Thursday, 6 May.
