He WILL be back as Loki, but not in the Loki show…
In case you didn’t know, we really liked Loki here in JOE.
In fact, we liked it so much, we dedicated an entire podcast to it, which you can check out right here.
Over the course of the first season’s six episodes, we got to see many different variations on the iconic God of Mischief, most of them played by Tom Hiddleston (naturally), but some played by other famous character actors (take a bow, Richard E. Grant), and some played by little alligators. It was Loki and it was weird and we loved it.
However, one of the more famous variations of Loki within the MCU did not return to make an appearance in the show, and that was Matt Damon, who briefly portrayed the character during an early scene in Thor: Ragnarok.
We recently caught up with Damon during the press trip for his new drama Stillwater, and while we had the opportunity, we had to ask him about his trips into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Damon is already confirmed to be returning as Loki (sort of) in 2022’s Thor: Love & Thunder, but considering the full menu of Lokis (Lokii? Is that the plural of Loki? Discuss.) who popped up during the Disney+ show, we wanted to know if he was approached about reprising the role for the first season.
Damon told us the following:
“No, that might be too meta for my Loki to pop in on the other Loki’s show. Actually, also because, in the last Thor movie, I did the cameo where I’m playing an actor playing Loki. That Loki! The Tom Hiddleson Loki! So that would be too many Lokis, I think that would confuse everybody.”
Or… considering this is Loki we’re talking about, is that just the right amount of Lokis? Or Lokii. Whatever we’re calling them.
Stillwater is released in Irish cinemas on Friday, 6 August.
