A number of current restrictions look set to be eased from September.
Workers are looking set to be able to return to offices from next month following Friday’s Covid-19 Cabinet sub-committee meeting.
Senior ministers met this afternoon for nearly four hours to discuss plans to ease the remaining restrictions in place, with the meeting adjourned until Monday.
However, multiple reports suggest that the beginning of the return of workers to offices is on the cards for September.
This is along with the resumption of confirmations and communions and a phased easing of the numbers that can attend outdoor events from next month.
Ministers are also reported to have discussed plans for using vaccine passes to increase the numbers allowed to attend theatres.
A Government statement issued following Friday’s meeting reads: “The subcommittee received presentations from officials on various matters including the most recent NPHET advice, progress of the vaccine programme and current situation with health services.
“Possible next steps were discussed and it was agreed to adjourn until Monday.
“At Monday’s meeting, the draft plan will be discussed, prior to full Cabinet consideration on Tuesday. There will be further engagement over the weekend across Government and also with the organisers of Electric Picnic.”
Prior to Friday’s meeting, Arts Minister Catherine Martin said she wanted to see an easing of restrictions in September for Ireland’s musicians and artists, stating “It’s time for them to perform again.”
Meanwhile, on the likelihood of Electric Picnic going ahead, Martin stated she would be discussing the matter with her colleagues and that “all possible options” are being explored to facilitate the event.
