Hazardous travel conditions are anticipated.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for 18 counties, with freezing fog set to develop over the next couple of days.
The warning concerns the entirety of both Leinster and Munster.
As a result, it applies to Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Offaly, Longford, Louth, Meath, Laoighis, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow in addition to Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.
According to Met Éireann, fog or freezing fog will develop on Wednesday evening (12 January), becoming dense in parts of Leinster and Munster overnight.
This in turn will lead to impaired visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
The fog will be slow to lift on Thursday and may linger locally beyond the warning period.
The warning is in effect from 8pm on Wednesday until 12pm on Thursday.
As for a general overall forecast, Wednesday afternoon should bring highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees, while the night is expected to be dry with good clear spells.
Light breezes will bring the aforementioned fog, becoming widespread and dense over time.
Lowest temperatures on Wednesday night will range between -1 and +3 degrees, with frost forming,
