Will Smith earned his first Oscar nomination for his performance.
It’s the weekend before Paddy’s Day.
There’s not one, but TWO bank holidays this week.
So needless to say, it’s going to be a very busy few days of socialising, partying, and having the craic.
We recommend a chilled weekend to prepare you for the upcoming madness.
And what better way to relax than with a good film?
Here’s JOE’s top picks for movies on the small screen this Sunday (13 March).
Marley and Me – ITV2 – 4.20pm
The greatest argument for and against getting a dog. We cry every time…
Big – Channel 5 – 4.20pm
Questionable ending aside, a feel-good body-swap comedy.
The Man with the Golden Gun – ITV4 – 4.25pm
Roger Moore’s second outing as Bond, taking on another iconic villain role from Christopher Lee.
Crocodile Dundee II – E4 – 6.50pm
“That’s not a sequel… THIS is a sequel.”
The Bourne Ultimatum – ITV4 – 9pm
The best Bourne movie.
The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult – Comedy Central – 9pm
You really can’t beat a Naked Gun film.
2012 – Film4 – 9pm
“The neutrinos… have mutated.”
Hitman: Agent 47 – E4 – 9pm
Part of the long history of terrible video game adaptations.
Doineann – BBC Two – 10pm
An Irish-language thriller about a man whose family goes missing on a remote island.
Ali – BBC Two – 11.30pm
Our top pick for tonight is a classic sports biopic which earned Will Smith his first Oscar nomination.
Smith stars as the titular Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali in this Michael Mann directed drama.
While it failed to light up the ‘box’ office (pardon the pun), the boxing scenes and Smith’s performance as Ali is well worth the watch.
LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
