‘I have always done my best to be honourable and kind’

Philip Schofield has stepped down as co-host of ITV’s This Morning show ‘with immediate effect’.

The veteran broadcaster made the announcement via his Instagram account after weeks of speculation about his future on the show.

Schofield is out of contract in September and there had been intense speculation surrounding his future in the hosting role after a reported falling out with fellow host Holly Willoughby. The pair were said to have gone through a rough patch after Willoughby found out Scholfield’s brother, Timothy, was on trial, for sexual offences with a teenager, through media reports.

Over on his Instagram account, Schofield broke the news, saying he understood that ‘ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on’.

Philip Schofield wants ‘to protect the show that I love’

In announcing his departure from the popular day-time show, Philip Schofield said he made the decision to ‘protect the show I love’.

He said that he hoped the show had ‘a bright future’ and thank staff from the show for their support.

Holly Willoughby took the opportunity, soon after, to wish Schofield all the best after their 13 years hosting together:

ITV are expected to make an announcement on a future co-host in the coming weeks.
