Gardaí are seeking an extradition warrant for a person known to mother-of-one Jamey Carney (43) who was killed in Killarney last month.

A summary of the file will be sent to authorities in Jordan where Ms Carney’s boyfriend had travelled in the hours after her death and now resides.

Gardai believe Ahmad Al Saqar boarded a 3am bus to Dublin before flying to Turkey and travelling into Jordan.

Ms Carney who was originally from New York was discovered by her 13 year-old daughter and had sustained serious injuries.

A summary outline was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) while the investigation continues.

The extradition warrant has been sought under a co-operation agreement which exists for countries outside the EU.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said on RTE last month: “No matter where you are, the gardai will seek to pursue you.”

"If he's in a country where we don't have an extradition agreement, it may be difficult to get him.

"But that situation happened in the United Arab Emirates, and we secured an agreement with the United Arab Emirates, and we returned a person here who has been convicted of a very serious offence of organised criminal activity, and another person is incarcerated in the United States.

"I know from speaking to the [Garda] Commissioner that the gardaí have great connections with other police forces around the world. And I know that they will be pursuing every line of inquiry to ensure that a person, if that person is charged with an offence, can be brought to justice here."
