Here are the 15 countries that consume the most alcohol

Like every other nation in the world, Irish people enjoy a tipple or two, but trips abroad are always quite interesting because it allows you to see first-hand what the drinking culture is like in other countries.

In a recent study, the World Health Organisation has ranked various countries in order of how much alcohol they consume. They’ve also conducted research to find out the total amount of alcohol that’s consumed by the average person in each country in litres per year.

Belarus took the top spot when it came to alcohol consumption. The average Belarusian  consumes 17.32 litres per year.

Lithuania placed second, followed by the Czech Republic, Croatia and Austria which all had an average consumption of around 12 litres.

Ireland places eighth on the list, with an average of 11.72 litres of pure alcohol consumed by our nation.
