These are not for the faint-hearted.

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a mountain goat, hopping from valley to peak and from mountainside to mountainside? Are you looking to get healthy and stay healthy? With the recent beautiful weather we’ve been enjoying, there is no better time to enjoy a scenic hike in the Irish countryside.

We’ve put together a list of great hikes to keep you in good shape and good spirits! Be warned that these are some testing hikes that are tougher than a gentle stroll up a hillside. Still, if you’re looking for the best views and you’re willing to push yourself, then it will definitely be worth your while.

So get your hiking boots on, fire up your Google Maps and check out some of these amazing Irish hikes in that summer sun.

Rock an Thorabh Loop

Grab some friends and go rambling through forest tracks and woodland trails of the Rock an Thorabh Loop.

Stretching through Tipperary’s fresh and flawless countryside, this two and a half hour trail travels along the 300 million-year-old red sandstone ridges of Slievenamuck.

The loop awards adventurers with amazing views of Tipperary Town, Silver Mines, and Keeper Hill from atop the Rock an Thorabh viewing point. Hikers in need of that little bit of extra motivation can take solace in the fact that the loop starts and finishes in the warm and welcoming local pub.

Cuilcagh Mountain Walk

Situated only two and a half hours from the capital is Ireland’s own ‘Stairway to Heaven’. The picturesque views offered by this boardwalk wander have attracted Ireland’s various social media influencers like moths to a flame. At 666 meters above sea level, this spot is perfect for a pose with the rolling hills and blanket bogs of Fermanagh.

Pack a picnic and your selfie stick and get ready for a steep climb worthy of it’s Led Zeppelin-inspired nickname.

Saint Kevin’s Way

Follow in the footsteps of St Kevin through the ridges and valleys of beautiful Wicklow and on through to the beautiful oasis of wood and water that is Glendalough. Unlike the careers and dreams of countless out-of-work actors and actresses, this route kicks off in Hollywood and doesn’t end in disappointment.

Be certain to prepare yourself for a long walk through a variety of landscapes dotted with historic ruins from Ireland’s past.

Cliffs of Moher Coastal Path

The Cliffs of Moher Coastal Path takes you on a trip to one of Ireland’s most iconic landmarks. Running along the famous Cliffs of Moher with views over the Aran Islands and Galway Bay, this challenging but fulfilling walk is perfect to placate your inner adventurer.

The Causeway Coast Path

One of the Island’s most scenic trails, the Causeway Coast Path is as easily enjoyed by the novice walker as it is the accomplished hiker. The world-renowned Giant’s Causeway is home to a unique collection of polygonal basalt columns unique to the area.

They say that the beautiful scenery was formed over 60 million years ago by a series of volcanic eruptions but we really know that they are a result of the antics of the legendary Fionn mac Cumhaill.
