Fitness fanatics chase glory in one of Ireland’s toughest gym competitions

Let the games begin!

Here’s one for the fitness junkies! If you enjoy watching other people push themselves to their physical limit, then this competition is for you.

FLYEfit are currently hosting the heats of their annual fitness competition, The Games. This is the ultimate test of strength and endurance.

The competition is made up of a gruelling circuit that involves, among other things, kettlebells, barbells, rowing machines, ski machines and assault bikes.

The first heat took place last week in FLYEfit Swords.

Niamh Devaney and Davinia Murray came out on top the female heat with times of 12.58 and 13.00 respectively. They had to do three sets of each of the following:

  • 400m row
  • 25kg push press x 10 reps
  • 16kg swing x 15 reps
  • Burpee box jumps x 10 reps
  • 25kg weighted walking lunges x 30ft.

Simon Purser and Stephen Howard were the victors in the male heat after completing three sets of the following 12 minutes:

  • 500m row
  • 40kg push press x 10 reps
  • 24kg swing x 15 reps
  • Burpee box jumps x 10 reps
  • 40kg walking lunges x 30ft

Heat two will take place in Macken Street with the fastest 12 finishers in both male and female sections proceeding the final on 28 April in FLYEfit Swords. The winners will each receive over €2000 worth of prizes.

The Games is an annual fitness competition brought to you by FLYEfit gyms. The Games seeks to find the fittest male and female competitors. Each workout consists of numerous strength and conditioning exercises, pushing contestants to their limits. Find out more here.
