Irish people reveal the main reasons they struggle to sleep at night

Conor Heneghan

Find yourself regularly staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night?

If you do, you’re far from the only one and there are all sorts of reasons why, try as you might, you just can’t fall into a nice, deep slumber.

For Irish people, stress is the main cause of a disrupted nights’ sleep, according to research by Jury’s Inn to mark the trial of their ‘Tug of War Duvet’, a bespoke duvet which allows couples to stay together or pull apart with ease for the optimum night’s sleep.

Over half of Irish participants in the survey (56%) said that stress was the main reason they found themselves tossing and turning at night, with just under one in three (32%) saying that panicking about how early their alarm was going to go off was cause for a poor night’s sleep.

Next on the list is something that will ring a bell with couples all over the country, with just under a quarter of respondents (24%) blaming their partner stealing the bed covers or snoring too loudly for disrupting their shut-eye.

The research also found that just under half (44%) of Irish people will hit the snooze button on their alarm every single morning. 38% of those who do so said they used the snooze button to doze off for another 15 minutes, with a little over one in ten (12%) opting for at least an extra half an hour under the covers.

35% of those surveyed said that they went to bed at a different time to their other half every night, while 68% made time for a goodnight kiss and 57% said they told their partners they loved them every single night.

Aww.

The ‘Tug of War Duvet’ being trialled by Jury’s is designed to pull apart should your other half try to steal your share of the duvet, and join back together should you wish to be close.

The pull-apart seam down the middle cleverly prevents slack from occurring when your sleep partner tosses and turns and bonds back together when it should.

Should help prevent instances such as these…
