Running a marathon this summer? Here’s 5 nutritional tips which will make your life so much easier

If you're running, here's what you need to know

The SSE Airtricty Dublin Marathon is less than three months away.

Many of you guys are running it, and if you are, you should probably be seeing the benefits of your training by now.

If not, it might have something to do with your nutrition regime. Here’s 5 tips to help you get your pre-marathon nutrition right.

Avoid Processed food

Stay away from pre packaged food that you just have to microwave. It may take a bit more time but try cook food from scratch. Home cooked meals are much healthier than pre packed food.

Fresh fish

Get the balance right

Try get the balance right between the amounts of carbohydrates, fats and protein in your diet. Try get these from real foods not in tablet form.

Hydrate

Start all workouts hydrated, drink water before during and after workouts. sometimes add a little electrolytes to your fluids to replace loss salts and minerals.

Eat loads colour

Eat well every day, the more colour in your diet the healthier it is likely to be for example and mixed salad with lettuce, peppers and sweet corn. Loads of colour and healthy.

30 minute window

The best time to re fuel after running is the first 30 minutes, get a small amount of protein to help re fuel the working muscles. something light that is easy to digest and stomach.
