The days of NekNominations are well and truly over, so let’s hope FitNominations are here to stay instead
The dangerous craze of ‘NekNominations’ on social media has gotten plenty of headlines in the last few days following the deaths of two young men, 22-year old Ross Cummins from Dublin and 19-year old Jonny Byrne from Carlow, which are believed to be have been linked to the new trend.
These tragic losses were both needless fatalities and Alcohol Action Ireland has already spoken out about such irresponsible drinking. A video by Cormac McCarthy over the weekend posited an alternative NekNomination that thankfully showed a lad using a bit of common sense, and it seems that Derek Winterlich of Modern Warrior Body reckons that there’s another type of nomination that we can do.
He’s called out a few big names, including Conor McGregor to get involved and show their fitness skills by doing an exercise of their choice, be it the deadlift, a few pushups, or whatever they’re comfortable with. Derek goes on to do a pretty impressive muscle-up, and the lads he called out only have 24 hours to respond, so we’ll have to wait and see what they come up with.
